Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E):

  • Eligibility: Available to veterans with service-connected disabilities. Upon approval, for veterans with a disability rating of 10% or above or memorandum rating of at least 20%. 

    • Only eligible if they did not receive dishonorable discharge.

    • Active duty can be eligible if:

    • Have a 20% or higher pre-discharge disability rating and will be leaving military service soon.

    • Waiting to be discharged because of severe illness or injury that occurred while on active duty

    • Severely injured active duty service members can automatically receive VR&E before VA issues disability rating in special circumstances.

  • Benefits: Provides services to help veterans with service-connected disabilities prepare for, find, and keep suitable jobs.


Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistant (DEA)

  • Eligibility: Available to those who meet any of the following qualifications

    •  The Veteran is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability.

    • The Veteran died as a result of a service-connected disability.

    •  The service member died in the line of duty.

    • The service member is missing in action or was captured in the line of duty by a hostile force for more than 90 days.

    •  The service member was forcibly detained (held) or interned in the line of duty by a foreign entity for more than 90 days.

    • The service member is in the hospital or getting outpatient treatment for a service-connected permanent and total disability and is likely to be discharged for that disability.

  • Benefits: You may be able to get a monthly payment to help you cover the cost of school or your expenses while you’re participating in the program.

    • If your school or training started on or after August 1, 2018, you may be able to get benefits for up to 36 months.

    • You may also get educational and career counseling


Fry Scholarship:

  • Eligibility: Available to children and spouses of service members who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001.

    •  The member of the Selected Reserve died in the line of duty other than active duty on or after September 11, 2001.

    • The member of the Selected Reserve died from a service-connected disability on or after September 11, 2001.

  • Benefits: Provides education benefits similar to the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
